Wild Plums

Wild Plums
Pastel on paper 12"x16"

There was an abundance of these tart little plums this fall in Missouri. They were nicer to look at than they were to eat.
The plums were fun to paint, but the leaves were difficult and I didn't really enjoy painting them. I think it shows. I'm not sure I'd want to try anything like this again. There's a lot here that I'm not happy with, but I was ready to be done with it, at least for now.

I welcome suggestions and critiques of any of my paintings.

  2. As a fellow painter of plums I'd have to say these are exceptional :) I'm wondering why you didn't like the leaves. I've never done anything this "full" of leaves but the only thing I can think of is to maybe just do the few in the front (attached to the branch with the plums) with more detail...like you did...but have all the other ones more subtle...to have the focal point on that one plum area. Just my humble opinion...but if I'd painted this I'd be really proud of it.

  5. Wow. I love the cool light bathing this scene. The shadow side of the plums are subtle and beautiful.
